There’s a new module on TrialHub that allows you to search for reimbursed drugs by drug name, indication or country. Here’s what you should know about it.
What is Reimbursed Drugs?
Reimbursed drugs is a new module on TrialHub that helps you understand drug reimbursement in your target countries or search for countries where the drug you’re interested in is reimbursed.
Alternatively, you can search by indication to find out which drugs are reimbursed for Atopic dermatitis, for example, and also check out which countries reimburse them.
Reimbursed drugs on TrialHub provides you with information about the country’s reimbursement system, the drugs themselves, the level of reimbursement, and the price of the drugs in local currency.
What can you do with this data?
Reimbursed drugs can be used for a variety of different tasks and projects and by multiple teams and professionals. Here are some examples:
- If you and your team are planning a study for a second line treatment, you want to know which countries you can go to – countries where a lot of your target patients have already taken the first line treatment. By selecting countries where the first line treatment is reimbursed, you increase the chances that your target patient population will be eligible for your study.
- If you’re planning a study which will compare the investigational new drug against the gold standard treatment you want to go to countries where the gold standard is in use. Checking out where the gold standard is reimbursed guarantees that you won’t have additional approval challenges.
- If you’re tasked with country selection and your strategy is to go to countries where recruitment will be easier, you want to avoid competition. Competition, however, includes not only other trials but reimbursed drugs as well. If many drugs are reimbursed and especially if they are fully reimbursed, patients are not very likely to want to join a trial for their condition.
These are just a few examples that have to do with initial clinical trial feasibility. However, Reimbursed drugs can be used for the purpose of market access research as well.
If you are at the early stages of developing a new treatment (or you are a consultant to a company that is) you want to go to countries that have a greater need for this treatment. To find out which countries these are, you can take a look at their reimbursement systems and the number of drugs they reimburse – and, the level of reimbursement.
That can help you design a robust strategy. Go to countries where demand is high or countries where your treatment is more likely to be reimbursed and thus – in use.
